Einander zuhören – Stadt-(Ge)Schichten

Listening to each other - Layers of narratives

Einander zuhören – Stadt-(Ge)Schichten is a project that invites artists, researchers and students to examin the relation between city residents and their urban environment. The ongoing project is being developed together with Goethe-Institut Athens and Fonés in in the frame of a locative media project with noTours and a sound cartography of Athens, creating interactive and site specific sound-narratives for a series of sound walks in the city.

Sound moments

Thursday 4 April 2013, by Zoi Arvaniti

The shape of the town is emerging out of it s sounds. In a chaseless mixing of ever changing acoustic signals day and night, it declares it s presence. No area of living creaatures is conceivable in separation from the endless flow of this row material.

My soundsape is an attempt to catch the sound moments recorded in different points within the urban space. Moving signals emitted by moving people and objects all too familiar so as to represent a kind of identity of this place. A kind of backround wave radiation of our living space structured along a (bad recorded) main theme: the recording of the voice of an immigrant woman singing for herself in a subway coach.

Zoi Arvaniti I was born in Athens on 1983. I studied at National and Kapodistrian Univercity of Athens (2001-2005) in the faculty of Theater Studies. Between 2005-today I am a student in the domain of sculpture in Athens School of Fine Arts in the laboratory of G. Houliaras. I have taken part in a number of land and public art workshops and have participated in a lot of other collaborative efforts of my school with others in the realization of a variety of projects and workshops. My main photographic collaborator is Marios Vouros with whom I have collaborated in this as well other projects.
